When it comes to high-volume manufacturing, global giants excel. But when the task involves developing highly complex, hyper-specialized components for one of the world's most exotic hybrid hypercars, mass-production frameworks are rarely the right fit.
That is exactly how Tachyon Engineering became the engineering force behind the turbocharger development for the legendary McLaren P1.
Developing forced induction for a 737-horsepower powertrain meant operating right at the bleeding edge of material science. The McLaren P1 left absolutely no room for compromise regarding weight reduction and thermal management.
One of our primary design challenges involved the turbine housing itself. To save every possible gram of weight, the design required an incredibly thin turbine housing wall thickness of only 2mm.
